Treatment of adjustment disorders in Mainz with Susan Mir

.

Crises and stressful life changes, such as separation from a partner, death of a close person, transition to retirement, children moving out, etc. can lead to an adjustment disorder if the person concerned is overwhelmed by the events. Then the body and mind react to the stressful situation. Signs of depression or anxiety disorders often develop. Stomach pain, difficulty concentrating, tension or cardiovascular problems can also occur. Many react with social withdrawal.

If the stress reaction is based on traumatic experiences and persists for a long time, post-traumatic stress disorder may also be present. I will lead you out of the crisis through resource work, a change of perspective and work with the inner child.

Symptoms and Diagnosis

.

The first symptoms usually appear within a month of the triggering event. Since these are non-specific complaints, they are often not assigned to the cause. It often happens Anxiety and depression , but also anger, bitterness or despair. Many sufferers withdraw and show signs of deep exhaustion. Some also develop psychosomatic complaints , such as disorders in the digestive system.

As part of the diagnostic process, it is important to rule out physical causes and to identify the event that you cannot cope with. Only when this has happened can long-term, promising treatment begin.

Victims and families of people with adjustment disorders tend to reverse or mitigate the triggering event. Children are moving back into their parents’ homes or relatives are increasingly taking care of a woman whose husband recently passed away. The well-intentioned assistance cannot be a permanent solution.

increasing social support and empathetic conversations are useful, sufferers need to learn coping strategies . The behavioral therapy that I offer in my practice in Mainz is very helpful here. In the psychotherapeutic sessions, I strive to relieve the emotional pressure that weighs on the patient and develop concepts for solving the problem . In short, you have the right to grieve, but you need to learn that that feeling doesn’t rule your life.

Your questions about adjustment disorders

.

Most people with adjustment disorder are very tense, constantly angry, and often have intense anxiety. Many have pain without a physical cause, are quickly exhausted and show an unusual aggressiveness. A small event causes them to “explode”.

The symptoms are very similar, but there is one difference. An adjustment disorder has a triggering event and usually lasts a maximum of 6 months. If the symptoms last longer or come back after a period of improvement, it is usually a case of depression.

An adjustment disorder usually goes away after a few months without treatment. Psychotherapeutic support makes the symptoms easier to bear. But the symptoms can be signs of depression. Therefore, the therapist must check whether it is actually a reaction to difficult life circumstances or whether depression is present.
