Chronic illnesses are associated with reduced quality of life, shortened life expectancy and individual suffering. Psychotherapeutic approaches help to cope with life with illness. Diseases cause fear and worry; not everyone succeeds in accepting this. ME/CFS, Long Covid, cancer, cystic fibrosis, AIDS, but also cardiovascular diseases, asthma and diabetes challenge everyone affected. Motivation, self-management and pacing are important strategies to find your way out of the victim role. Acceptance and teaching your brain to think in an appropriate way are the keys to your future.

How I support you

I support you in developing and using your own resources in a way that allows you to lead a fulfilling life despite the illness. The focus is on what is possible. In the case of chronic illnesses, complaints can subside if the person concerned accepts the illness. Diagnostics in a therapeutic context bring to light symptom-aggravating patterns of behavior and thinking. In my practice in Mainz, we work on helpful strategies that calm the nervous system.

Although not the same, some of the coping strategies are like those used for psychosomatic illnesses , in which the psyche is one of the main causes of the symptoms. An enduring serious illness is easier to endure if you learn to manage it.

I support you to let go of your fears and accept your life situation. We can re-arrange ourselves in our lives if we say goodbye to expectations and focus on what is. This opens up completely new possibilities. Through breathing and meditation exercises, you can learn to experience peace and serenity despite limitations or pain. My wish is to accompany you on this path.

You do not need a referral from a doctor. As a self paying client you decide when and how often you come to me. I am looking forward to you taking the first step.

Initial consultation

In an initial consultation, you will describe your situation, and I will inform you about all possible therapy options. The therapy takes place in 60 minute sessions which we schedule to fit into your weekly schedule. 

Psychotherapie

Elements are taken from cognitive behavioural therapy, analytical psychotherapy, systemic therapy and client-centered therapy to form an individual treatment concept for each client.

Your questions about living with illness

The most important step is to accept the illness. You have it cannot change that. Learn to adapt. The disease changes your life, prepare for it. Talk about your condition, because those around you have the right to be informed. Take advantage of psychotherapeutic help to maintain a positive attitude towards life.

Most patients recognize their situation very well. They would like to talk about their fear. Take their concerns seriously and don’t choke off conversations with empty phrases like “It’ll be fine”. Your friend must be allowed to talk about what moves them.

Relatives are often overwhelmed by your illness. They try to express empathy by mentioning that they have had a similar illness, or they try and give helpful advice that gets under your skin. Don’t just swallow, but tell the other person that their behavior hurts you. Ask them to listen more.
