THERAPY FOR BURNOUT

.

If you have been feeling physically and emotionally exhausted for a long time, feel listless and tired, and can no longer recover from stress, then you could be suffering from burnout. Your strategies for coping with stress are not working. Burnout can also cause physical symptoms without an organic cause. Such psychosomatic complaints are, for example, sleep disorders, headaches, digestive problems or back pain.

Depression and anxiety add themselves to the malaise. The causes are manifold. Burnout often affects people who are exposed to excessive professional and private stress. When inner beliefs and attitudes make it difficult to deal with the outside world, the psyche and body are knocked out of balance; you feel burnt out. I support you in clarifying what has led to this exhaustion and in developing new strategies so that you can deal better with difficulties in everyday life. It is possible to leave a burnout behind you.

.

Recognizing Symptoms Of Burnout

.

As part of the diagnosis, we first determine what kind of stress it is. It can simply be an overload, at work or in the family. Often many factors come together. We reduce the symptoms by supporting you in illuminate options open to re-design your life. In this way you become capable of taking action and learn to differentiate between what you can change and what is better left alone. What you can change, how does a change of perspective help you and what you need to accept, at least for the current time. The challenge lies in coping with stress.

.

OVERCOMING BURNOUT AND STRESS

.

When treating a burnout that is based on objective stress, the patient must learn methods to differentiate. A lot of people with burnout tend to take on tasks that should be done by others. They are simply exploited by work colleagues, friends, acquaintances and family.

All sufferers of burnout need strategies to manage and avoid stress. If you spend the night in bed mentally dealing with the work of the past and the following day, you cannot relax. In my practice in Mainz, I help my patients to develop special methods to switch off, to prioritise and to regain the strength for everyday life.

Your questions about burnout

.

Exhaustion, alienation from one’s own work and reduced performance are typical signs. You feel constantly overwhelmed, drained and listless. Your work seems frustrating to you. You lose empathy with your fellow human beings and develop an emotional distance from them. You find it difficult to concentrate, become forgetful and lack ideas and the will to take decisions.

In retrospect, patients with burnout report that before the onset of the first symptoms they had increased work activity with reduced work effectiveness. They were restless, felt they never had enough time. Fear of failure often led to the person concerned throwing himself more and more into his work.

  • Check your professional and private goals regularly.
  • Make a strict distinction between work and private life and do not mix work time with free time.
  • Do not overload your free time with activities, learn to enjoy stillness and inactivity.
  • Maintain social contacts.
  • Get some exercise in the fresh air. A relaxed walk in the woods is better than jogging on the treadmill at the gym.
  • Make sure you get enough sleep and follow a healthy diet.
  • Avoid alcohol, nicotine, energy drinks and sleeping pills or pick-me-up drugs.
